In the early years of the Roanoke Fire Department, employees were required to buy their uniforms and gear. This cost was around $500.00, which in 1935, was a lot of money.
In the spirit of firefighters everywhere, a group of firemen decided to help each other out and got together to form the Roanoke Virginia Firemen Federal Credit Union. There, employees could borrow the money needed to get their startup gear and uniforms and pay the loan back in manageable payments.
Based on the premise of helping others, the Roanoke Virginia Firemen Federal Credit Union today still works to help it's members get the things they need and want, with manageable loan payments. We strive to provide the best possible loan rates, as well as dividends for the savers.
We are still here to "serve the people who serve the public."
